REACH FOR IT

Oprah, the Dalai Lama and, yes, even Chuck Norris advocate the same thing: “reach your full potential.” But in recent years, that term has become so readily available and mismanufactured that it no longer carries the weight it once did. We all want to get there, but we just don’t know HOW. Sorry Mr. Norris, we never got that memo with the treasure map to self-empowerment... the one with the directions, tips and various starting points... yeah, no.

The term “full potential” is so loosely passed around that it’s giving Halloween candy a run for its money. Everyone’s talking about it like it’s a place to “get to” rather than a place of  “being” at. Some people look outward for the answers, comparing themselves to airbrushed models in magazines or Ferrari-driving CEOs, not knowing all the answers we need are within. Other people try desperately to “fix” themselves, unaware that it’s a losing battle, because there’s nothing to be fixed in the first place.

The starting point to BEING your most powerful is realizing that you cannot fix yourself because you are not broken. The roadmap to the buried treasure is within you—where all the answers and wisdom lie. It’s that simple.

A sense of inadequacy is learned. Most of us are lucky to be born as healthy, beautiful, perfect babies. Babies are like a white sheet of paper ready to be written all over with information. Depending on who provides that information, it can be useful or not. Whoever told you that there’s something wrong with you most likely caught the same inadequacy germ from their parents, teachers and other role models.

It’s as simple as this: ugly beliefs lead to ugly habits that, in turn, lead to ugly actions. Our beliefs are at the root of everything. The good news is they are not written in stone. We can change them anytime we like. All you have to do is say YES, and allow yourself permission to be you.

Everything changes. We change, whether we like it or not. Every minute, every second, the cells in our body are regenerated. In a month, we can generate a brand new liver if we allow it. If you give yourself good building blocks (good food, vitamins, water, rest, fun), you will build a masterpiece. Give yourself bad materials (alcohol, cigarettes, trans fats, no sleep) and you’ll destroy even that crippled cottage you are left with. Let your beliefs about yourself be good ones and you will realize your power. Say YES! and you become unstoppable.

Summer Sweet Potato Soup

Summer is here. A light and easy-to-make soup is a great way to feel refreshed as the day winds down. Summer Sweet Potato Soup only takes a dash of time to make.

2 large Japanese sweet potatoes or American Yams
16 oz of chicken or vegetable broth
16  oz of water
2 tbsp of minced garlic
2 tbsp of minced ginger
2 tbsp of lemon grass (optional)
3 tbsp of sesame or olive oil
3 cups of chopped mushrooms
1 cup of chopped basil and or cilantro
1 teaspoon of vanilla
1 pinch of nutmeg or pumpkin spice
Salt and pepper for taste

Bake the sweet potatoes or yams until well done (this can be done ahead of time). In a large soup pan, add oil, garlic, ginger, lemongrass, and sauté for a few seconds. Add the broth and water and stir thoroughly. Mash the sweet potatoes or yams and add to the pan. Put in the mushrooms, salt, pepper, vanilla, nutmeg and stir. Bring the mixture to a boil before removing it from the stove.

Serve at room temperature or cold. Sprinkle the soup with chopped basil or cilantro to serve.

Just the Workout

24/7 Gym, ABSOLUTELY FREE, get your membership NOW!

If someone told you that there’s a gym open to anybody and everybody 24/7, absolutely FREE of charge, would you think they were nuts? Well, this place really exists and it’s actually a worldwide chain. It can be found in big and small cities, as well as rural villages, and lets you challenge yourself with an array of conditioning methods. Just step outside, wherever you are and you can turn that space into your own personal gym. Where is this incredible place? The great OUTDOORS.

All you need is a little bit of creativity and “out-of-the-box” mentality. BMA trainers work outside with nearly half of our client base, at parks, beaches, and parking lots. Most of these people are bored with the same picture they see in their gym day after day and are seeking new challenges, something to add spice to their healthy lifestyle and fresh excitement to their workouts.

As you start with these outdoor workouts, you might want to invest in a few items such as a yoga mat, jumping rope and a rubber band. You don’t necessarily need a trainer to workout outdoors. All it takes is a little bit of planning. Here are some ideas…

Warm-Up: go for a run or jump rope. The mountain trail, grassy field or sandy beach provides you with all the difficulty levels of a treadmill. Get the blood flowing and your lungs going.

Main workout: it’s best to do a whole body workout. Sit on a yoga mat and engage the core with crunches, legs lifts, planks, bicycles, etc. Use benches to work on your chest and triceps by doing pushups and dips. Use the rubber band for training your biceps and shoulders by doing curls and overhead presses. For legs, you can lunge, squat or put one foot on top of a bench seat and do a one-leg squat.

Cool-down: have a seat on the mat and stretch. Let your body cool down and slow the heart beat to its original pace.

Once the workout is over, it’s time to reap the benefits. Your metabolism after the workout is much higher, which means you are burning calories much faster. It takes 38 hours to slow the metabolism down to its original rate after an hour-long, high intensity workout. You don’t need a business degree to realize that this is a great Return-On-Investment. Challenge yourself. Use your imagination and creativity. Look within. Never stop. Most importantly, enjoy your workout! Your FREE outdoor gym awaits.

BAZOOKA THEORY

We all have fond memories of Bazooka Gum. The square-like shape, the pink color, the comic strip. Bazooka Gum taught us to live in the NOW even when we were too young to know what that meant. Remember how Mom used to yell in fear that when we tried to blow the biggest bubble it might get stuck in our hair? Remember how we’d stretch the gum out our mouth as far as we could reach? At this point of our lives, the bubble stands for the moment and the stretch represents air (breath) and time. So go ahead create the biggest moment and stretch with all your might because it is BAZOOKA TIME!!!

Community
Community Our newest fascination is Yogahitch, a local company that makes a genius and practical yoga accessory. An organic cotton “hitch” that carries your yoga mat outside the studio while inside, it transforms to a towel, cushion or strap used for stretching. Yogi practitioners seeking to minimize their gear have been buzzing about the hip new yoga accessory designed to “Simplify Your Practice.” We love it because it’s fashionably hip (it comes in a variety of colors and styles), functional and perfectly suited for every practice. It’s unlike anything out there.
